Families and employers longitudional survey
The balance between work and family life is being shaken up by profound economic, social, demographic and political changes. Understanding these transformations requires new data to analyse the tensions between the two spheres, their impact on life courses and the risk factors according to professional and family characteristics.
The new Families and Employers longitudinal survey conducted by INED aims to measure changes in the level of conflict between work and personal life since the early 2000s. It will provide a better understanding of the way in which women and men organise their lives, and what facilitates or complicates the balance between these two spheres. Attention will be paid to the diversity of family and work situations.
The study aims to assess the effects on careers, family trajectories, well-being and health. It will also enable us to assess the role played by changes in company and public policies.
The results will be used to inform public decision-makers, employers and social protection bodies as they develop dedicated policies and support schemes.
Three waves of surveys, spaced three years apart, will take place from 2023 onwards. The employing establishments of the individuals surveyed will also be questioned.
The first wave of data collection began in September 2023 and will be completed in 2024.
Research team
The study is being conducted under the scientific responsibility of three researchers from INED’s economic demography unit. It was drawn up with a team of researchers and specialists in the design of statistical surveys. The study has a scientific advisory board and a legal advisor to ensure that the survey runs smoothly.
