Survey on Young Adults Intimate Relationships
The ENVIE survey, carried out by INED, aims to gain a better understanding of changes in the emotional and sexual lives of young adults : the diversity of intimate relationships, methods of dating, experiences of singlehood, ways of forming couples and experiences specific to LGBT people.
The last survey on young people’s sexuality in France was conducted in 1994 (Analysis of young people’s sexual behaviour - ACSJ). It was therefore important to carry out a new study to update our knowledge.
Around 10,000 people aged between 18 and 29 completed the questionnaire between November 2022 and July 2023. The survey was carried out by telephone by Ipsos, and participants were selected at random. Mobile phone numbers were randomly generated for this purpose. Participation was entirely voluntary.
INED is currently following up the statistical study with a qualitative study. Individual interviews are being conducted with respondents to the questionnaire who have agreed to be contacted by telephone. The aim is to give people the opportunity to explore certain subjects more freely. The aim is strictly scientific and participation is voluntary.
Research team
The study is coordinated by sociologist Marie Bergström and has been drawn up by a team of researchers and specialists in the construction of statistical surveys. It has a scientific advisory board and a legal advisor to ensure that the study runs smoothly.
