LifeObs brings together major producers of quantitative data in France (INSEE, Ined, Université Paris Dauphine - PSL) as well as key players responsible for disseminating this data.
Ined
Founded in 1945, INED became a public scientific and technological establishment (EPST) in 1986, under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Ministry of Solidarity, Autonomy and the Disabled. The Institute’s mission is to study the populations of France and other countries, to disseminate the knowledge produced widely and to assist in training for research and through research. It takes an open approach to demography, drawing on a wide range of disciplines including economics, history, geography, sociology, anthropology, biology and epidemiology. With its strong research teams, it encourages exchanges and conducts numerous European and international research projects. INED is one of the founding organisations and establishments of the Campus Condorcet.
As the coordinating body for the Life Obs project, INED contributes to all of the project’s activities, with the involvement of numerous researchers, the Surveys and Polls Department and the Statistical Methods Department.
Insee
The Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques is a department of the Ministry of the Economy and Finance. Its mission is to collect, analyse and disseminate information on the French economy and society as a whole. It conducts its work in complete professional independence.
INSEE’s involvement in LifeObs activities takes place at several levels, through the production of the Family Survey and ad hoc files, but also through its key role within the Innovation Department in promoting and developing methodological exchanges.
University of Paris Dauphine - PSL
Dauphine - PSL is France’s and Europe’s leading higher education institution for organisational and decision sciences.
The university is responsible for producing the Share survey, distributing it and producing the associated training kits.
University of Strasbourg (Misha)
Founded in 1998, the Maison Interuniverstaire des Sciences de l’Homme - Alsace (Misha) is the focal point for research in the humanities and social sciences in Alsace. It is the fruit of a close partnership between the CNRS, the universities of Alsace, the University of Strasbourg and the University of Haute Alsace, and the local authorities.
The MISHA has hosted the PUD-S since 2016, which aims to support and promote quantitative analyses (particularly those based on large surveys or structured administrative data) and ensure an effective link with the PROGEDO Very Large Research Infrastructure, of which it is the local offshoot.
the PUD-S is involved in the dissemination and training of survey data produced as part of LifeObs.
University of Bordeaux
The Université de Bordeaux is a key partner in the LifeObs project, thanks in particular to the involvement of the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (MSH) de Bordeaux, a support and research unit. A true incubator dedicated to the human and social sciences (SHS), the MSH de Bordeaux structures its scientific identity around three interconnected axes: Multilingual Territories, Inclusive Societies and Evolving Humanities. It promotes access to research infrastructures and supports researchers in their scientific and collaborative projects.
As part of the LifeObs project, MSH actively supports the Plateforme Universitaire de Données de Bordeaux (PUD-Bx), which plays a central role in the dissemination and training in the use of the survey data produced. This collaboration enhances the value of the data and contributes to the development of the skills required for their scientific and technical exploitation.
CNRS (Progedo)
The aim of Progedo, the star research infrastructure (IR*), is to develop a culture of data, and to promote and structure a survey data policy for social science research.
data culture and to drive and structure a survey data policy for social science research.
Progedo is responsible for the documentation and dissemination of LifeObs surveys.
